El Paso Electric Company. The Group's principal activity is to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in an area of approximately 10,000 square miles in west Texas and southern New Mexico. The Group also serves wholesale customers in Texas and in the Republic of Mexico. The Group owns significant ownership interests in six electrical generating facilities providing it with a total capacity of approximately 1,492 MW. It also serves approximately 360,000 residential, commercial, industrial and wholesale customers. It distributes electricity to retail customers mainly in El Paso, Texas, Las Cruces and New Mexico. The principal industrial and other customers of the Group include steel production, copper and oil refining and the United States military installations, including the United States Army Air Defense Center at Fort Bliss in Texas and White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico.
