The Group's principal activity is to engage in the ownership, management, development, redevelopment, acquisition and leasing of retail shopping malls and power and strip centres (approximately 34.6 million square feet) located in the eastern United States. The Group has elected to qualify as a real estate investment trust under Sections 856-860 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. The Company provides its management, leasing and real estate development services through two companies: PREIT Service LLC and PREIT-RUBIN Inc. PREIT Service LLC generally develops and manages properties that the Company consolidates for financial reporting purposes and PREIT-RUBIN Inc vice versa. In July 2008, the Group acquired a parcel in Lancaster.
