Business Description
Abovenet, Inc. Formerly known as Metromedia Fiber Network Inc. The Group's principal activity is to provide fiber optic infrastructure, high-bandwidth Internet connectivity and managed Internet infrastructure services. The all-fiber infrastructure enables its customers to share information internally and externally over private networks and a global IP backbone, creating collaborative businesses that can communicate at the speed of light. The Group's services include the MFN Network Services, MFN Managed Services, MFN Internet Services and MFN Carrier Services. These services are provided to incumbent local exchange carriers, competitive local exchange carriers, interexchange companies, paging, cellular and PCS companies, cable companies, Internet service providers and web hosting and e-commerce companies. The Group has international operations in Europe and Japan. On 08-Feb-2001, the Group merged with SiteSmith, Inc. On 20-May-2002, the Group filed for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.
