Business Description
Beacon Power Corporation. The Group's principal activities are the design and development of flywheel energy storage systems that provide reliable and uninterruptible electric power. The flywheel systems are based on energy storage technologies that can perform the same function as batteries and deliver high amounts of power over a short period of time. They also protect sensitive systems from sags, surges and other temporary interruptions in utility-supplied power. The Group currently sells two high-energy flywheel-based products and will introduce a range of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) products starting with the Smart Power(TM) 250 kWh flywheel UPS. The UPS systems have been approved by the Underwriters Laboratory and conform to the Telcordia safety standards of the telecommunication industry. The products will be marketed directly to customers in commercial facilities, telecommunication, cable and computer networks, Internet service providers and industrial manufacturing plants.
