Business Description
Central Bancorp, Inc.. The Group's principal activity is to generate funds in the form of deposits and use the funds to make mortgage loans for the purchase, refinancing and construction of residential properties and to make loans on commercial real estate in its market area. It also makes a limited amount of consumer loans including secured and unsecured personal loans and commercial and industrial loans. It sells residential mortgage loan production in the secondary mortgage market. It also maintains an investment portfolio of various types of debt securities, including corporate bonds and mortgage-backed securities and common and preferred equity securities. The Group offers investment services (including annuities) to its customers through a third party broker-dealer and its insurance affiliate. It conducts its operations through nine full-service office facilities located in Somerville, Arlington, Burlington, Chestnut Hill, Malden, Medford, Melrose and Woburn, Massachusetts.
