Business Description
Countrywide Financial Corporation. The Group's principal activity is residential mortgage banking and related businesses. The Group operates in five segments: Mortgage Banking, Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance and Global Operations. The Mortgage Banking segment originates, purchases, securitizes and services mortgage loans. Banking segment primarily invests in mortgage loans and home equity lines of credit. Capital Markets segment offers trading and underwriting mortgage-backed securities. Insurance segment offers property, casualty, life and credit insurance as an underwriter and as an independent agent. The Group also provides reinsurance coverage to primary mortgage insurers. The Group also provides short-term secured financing to mortgage lenders. Global operations segment provides mortgage loan application processing and servicing on behalf of a financial institution in the United Kingdom.
