Emerging Vision, Inc.. The Group's principal activity is to operate retail optical stores in the United States and Canada. The Group operates through two segments namely Retail Optical and Purchasing Group Business. The products include eye care products and services such as prescription and non-prescription eyeglasses, eyeglass frames, ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses, sunglasses and other ancillary items. It markets its products under the trade names: Sterling Optical, Site for Sore Eyes, Duling Optical and Singer Specs. It test-markets various brands of sunglasses, ophthalmic lenses, contact lenses and designer frames. Optical Purchasing Group Business is divided into two units, U.S. unit and COM. COM operates an optical purchasing group business, which provides its members with vendor discounts on optical products for resale. As of 31-Dec-2008, it operated 139 sterling stores, consisting of 6 Company-owned stores and 133 franchised stores.
