Kindred Healthcare, Inc.. The Group's principal activity is the provision of healthcare services through hospitals, nursing centers and institutional pharmacies. It operates in four segments: Health services, Hospital, Pharmacy and Rehabilitation division. The Health services division operates nursing centers. The Hospital division provides long-term acute care services to medically complex patients by operating hospitals and an institutional pharmacy business. The Pharmacy division provides pharmaceutical dispensing services. The rehabilitation division provides rehabilitation services primarily to nursing centers and long-term acute care hospitals. It operates solely in the United States. As of 31-Dec-2008, the Group operated 82 hospitals in 24 states and 228 nursing centers in 27 states and a rehabilitation therapy business.
