Business Description
Natural Resource Partners L P. The Group's principal activity is to own and manage coal properties in the United States of America. The Group is a limited partnership formed by the WPP Group and Arch Coal Inc. The WPP Group includes Western Pocahontas Properties Limited Partnership, New Gauley Coal Corporation and Great Northern Properties Limited Partnership. The coal reserves are leased to mine operators under long-term leases. The Group operates in Appalachia, the Illinois Basin and the Western United States. As of 31-Dec-2008, the Group controlled approximately 2.1 billion tons of proven and probable coal reserves with 201 leases and 73 lessees in eleven states.
