The coal reserves are leased to mine operators under long-term leases. The Group operates in Appalachia, the Illinois Basin and the Western United States. As of 31-Dec-2008, the Group controlled approximately 2.1 billion tons of proven and probable coal reserves with 201 leases and 73 lessees in eleven states.
