Cabot Microelectronics Corporation. The Group's principal activities are to develop, manufacture and supply polishing slurries for the usage in chemical mechanical planarization (CMP). CMP is a polishing process used by IC device manufacturers to planarize or flatten many of the multiple layers of material that are built upon silicon wafers to produce advanced IC devices. The polishing slurries are liquid solutions used in chemical mechanical planarization process to remove excess materials from the surfaces and leave only the material necessary for circuit integrity. The Group's CMP products are used for a number of applications, such as polishing insulating dielectric layers, tungsten that is used to connect the multiple wiring layers of IC devices. The Group markets the products through independent distributors and other industry suppliers. The products of the Group are sold in the United States, Europe and Asia.
