Allied Capital Corporation. The Group's principal activity is to provide long-term debt and equity capital to support the expansion of businesses in industries. It invests in two areas namely: Private finance and Commercial real estate finance. Private financing consists of the provision of junior capital in the form of subordinated debt with or without equity features, also called mezzanine financing. The Group invests in the industries of non-durable consumer products, business and financial services, light industrial products, healthcare services, retail, telecommunications, education and broadcasting. Commercial real estate financing consists of investments in non-investment grade commercial mortgage-backed securities. These bonds are secured by a collateral pool of commercial mortgage loans, which are, in turn, secured by commercial real estate.
